It is just a few hours after the Roe vs. Wade news leak and as I sit to write it is hard to know what exactly to say. I know that there is still a long way to go before this becomes a reality. I know that evil will not relent. And I also know that demonic activity is about to be unquestionably evident, but I can't help but feel that this is the greatest day in my nearly 43 years on this planet. Just the distinct possibility that God-given life will be preserved in a greater way gives me deep joy. I praise God that this possibility is coming into focus. Please, God, let it be so.
Over the past year and a half, we have clearly seen the distinct contrast between conservatism and liberalism being played out on the largest of scales. To be truthful, things are going just about as I expected they would, so I'm not surprised by what I have seen. But seeing the two different schools of thought converge into one arena in our nation's Supreme Court, we are privileged to observe the stark difference between the two approaches. You see, conservatism requires that both the text and the original intent of our Constitution and our laws dictate a judge's ruling. The judge is to have no freedom in this. A judge has been given no power to write or to enforce law, only to interpret it. Liberalism works in contrast. It enables a judiciary to interpret the text and the intent liberally, which is inevitably a deviation from the original intent, no matter how slight it may be. It is imperative that jurists interpret conservatively. It is the only possible way for our nation's Constitution to be upheld. Otherwise, we drift farther away with every generation.
The fact is this, our former President, Donald Trump appointed three Supreme Court Justices, and according to the leaked documents from the Court, each of them will be voting, along with senior Justices Thomas and Alito, to overturn the abortion of a Court ruling from 1973, Roe vs. Wade. If Hillary Clinton had been elected in 2016, we would not be having this discussion today as the Supreme Court would not have elected to hear the case. But even if they did, the vote would be an emphatic 7-2 to uphold Roe. There can be no question about that. The reasoning of the five justices can be understood by reading Justice Alito's draft and, from what I can tell, their reasoning is based on the fact that the original ruling was erroneous simply because a "right to abort" is nowhere to be found in our Constitution, but a "right to life" indeed is. A ruling such as this could never have been made apart from a liberal interpretation of the Constitution. A drifting from the original intent.
I wonder, have you ever noticed that there really is no such thing as a "rightward" drift? You've never even heard the term. That's because it doesn't really exist in our society. The drift only moves left because of liberal interpretations of the original. A conservative interpretation will keep you in the place you began. And why would people fight for the liberal interpretation of something? Because they want it to change. They don't like it the way it is and a liberal interpretation will allow them to expand it, soften it, and move it in their preferred direction. Sneaky, huh? Yep.
But we shouldn't be surprised. The evil one has used this tactic over and over down through the years. Genesis 3:1 tells us that he said to Eve, "Did God actually say...?". What was he doing? He was encouraging her to liberally interpret what God actually said. To insert and accept things that aren't actually there. And she did. Because she wanted to. She allowed the evil one to convince her that this was right because she wanted him to be right. She wanted to see the other side. This liberality was a liberty that she took for herself, not one that she was granted by her Master and Creator.
I pray that you and I will not be fooled by his deception and lies. Hold firmly and conservatively to God's Word. Interpret its text according to His intent and do not give in to the temptation to "liberalize" it. It is not your Word, it is His. He sets the parameters. He draws the lines. He makes the distinctions. He writes the laws. We follow Him explicitly and wholeheartedly. Why? Because He is good and we have seen it. Oh, His potential wrath upon us is more than enough reason for us to toe the line, and we fear Him and do obey Him with this in mind. But, His grace and kindness are what draw us to Him. We are not afraid of Him because, through Jesus, we have been accepted by Him. We now repent and turn from sin and toward Christ.
By the time you read this, it will be a week or more after I have written it. Much will likely have changed by then. Justices Gorsuch, Kavanaugh or Barrett may have caved to the relentless pressure of the mob (I don't think Thomas or Alito will - I praise God for these men. These two are evidence of God's graciousness toward us). My joys from today may be my sorrows tomorrow. But one thing, I am certain, has not changed in the past week, nor will it ever...my God is the same. He will never leave me (Hebrews 13:5). He has not forgotten about me. As a matter of fact, he is coming to get me soon. He is going to take me to His home, which is also my home. Me, along with the 60+ million who have been legally murdered in my country since 1973. He has not forgotten them either. Lord, please come soon.
God loves babies!
